Pai whenua was established in early 2024 by Joe Kelly primarily as a Geotechnical specialist engineering consultancy. The areas of work quickly expanded into structural engineering which saw partnerships develop with local structural companies while the project management of new and existing housing developments added to our expansion into other disciplines. 

Pai Whenua was set up to focus on delivering project outcomes that align with the shared values of Pai Whenua and our clients.

Joe Kelly 

Ko Joe Kelly tooku ingoa, he uri ahau noo Ngaati Toarangatira, noo Ngaati Tama anoo hoki, I tipu ake au noo Porirua, noo Aerani anoo hoki.

Joe is a Chartered Professional Engineer Geologist and Director of Pai Whenua Limited with 13 years of experience as a Geotechnical specialist. Joe provides specialized value for clients by focusing on geotechnical solutions while maintaining the bigger picture in building and infrastructure projects.

Wide-ranging experience in team, project, and programme management across a variety of contexts and contracts; including emergency response works, collaborative maintenance contracts, capital works projects and multi-disciplinary projects.

A strong background in retaining and passive slope structures in transportation and infrastructure settings. Assessment of slope instability in variety of settings using a number of assessment criteria to manage risk and achieve the desired outcomes. Vertical infrastructure development (commercial and residential buildings) including geotechnical assessment, land suitability assessments and foundation design. 

Joe Kelly is a member of Engineering New Zealand and the New Zealand Geotechnical Society.
